Arlington Cowboys Football Proactive in Concussion Prevention
The Arlington Cowboys Football program takes the safety of all
its players seriously. It is the most important factor we consider
when reviewing rules, organizing practices, and participating in
games. Arlington Cowboys Football is being proactive in its efforts
to keep our players safe from all injuries, including head trauma
(concussions). We have taken steps to assure that the boys in our
program chances of concussion are minimized.
Similarly in football, we believe the road to prevention is through properly training our coaches and providing the boys with best available equipment. Your child will spend over120 hours playing football this coming season. Only 10 of those hours will be in games and the rest in practices. By educating our head coaches on proper drills and safety measures during practices, we are significantly minimizing the risk of injury. Recent studies of professional football players helmets have found that the Riddell Revolution helmet is the best designed helmet in the prevention of head injury. This coming year, 2011, every Arlington Cowboy player will be fitted with a Riddell Revolution helmet. Annually, these helmets are tested and certified before being used the following season. Additionally, new helmets are purchased and made available as and whenever needed..
All impact sports inherently have risk of injury associated with
them. The Arlington Cowboys Football program has taken significant
steps in the last year to minimize this risk to our players. Prior
to the 2010 season, each head coach confirmed that they reviewed
material at the Center for Disease Control ( CDC website) prior to
the start of the season. They also were asked to educate the parents
of the players on their team within the first week of the season. We
have materials ordered to pass out to coaches this year from USA
Football (NFL Youth Football Program) and will continue this process
annually. We will continue to stay current on equipment and
techniques that further reduce the risk of injury.
