Q: Who is eligible to play in the Flag Program?

  • Silver Division Flag: only 1st and 2nd graders between the ages of 6-8 years old (as of September 1, 2016) and 80 lbs or less. Only eight year olds in 2nd grade are eligible (no 3rd graders). Kindergarten children can also play in the Silver Division, however this requires that the parent is a head coach.
  • Blue Division Flag: only 3rd and 4th graders between the age of 9-10 years old (as of September 1, 2016) and 120 lbs or less. Only ten year olds in 4th grade are eligible (no 5th graders).

NOTE: Any player over 120 lbs, regardless of age, must play Tackle.

Q: My child has not played organized football in past years, will my child play with others who are new?

  • Silver Division Flag: most children at this level are new to football. Where possible, we make every attempt to group children by school, neighborhood, and friend requests. Contingent on numbers of teams, we do make an effort to tier teams based on experience and age so that teams will play other teams at a similar level.
  • Blue Division Flag: some children at this level have prior playing experience, however, we fully expect a number of players coming into Blue Division flag football having never played before.  We welcome these players into the program and you should not be discouraged from joining the Blue Division for lack of prior experience.

Q: Can I request that my child play for specific coach?
A: At the Flag level, you can request a specific coach. Please note that on the registration form and we will do our best to accommodate this request.  Unfortunately, not all of these requests can be honored given the apportionment of teams and keeping an equitable number of players per team.

Q: Can I request my child to be on the same team as a friend?
A: At the Flag level, you can request that your child play on the same team as a friend. The Flag Coordinator will consider this request when establishing teams. Please note the friend request on your registration form.  Again, we will do our best to accommodate these requests, but cannot guarantee them in all cases.

Q: Can I request my child to be on the same Flag team as a sibling?
A: Yes.

Q: What is the purpose of the “Weight” provided on registration form?

  • Silver Division Flag: we limit players to 80 lbs or less, at time of registration.
  • Blue Division Flag: we limit players to 120 lbs or less, at time of registration. Any player who weighs more than 120 lbs must play Tackle.

Q: Where do teams practice and play games?
A: Most teams will practice at or near the school/park they are grouped by.  Your head coach will make that determination and will notify all parents.  All flag games will be played on Saturdays at Pioneer Park.

Q: Can non-residents play in the Arlington Cowboys program?
A: Yes, but there is an additional fee for non-resident players (outside of the 60004 and 60005 zip codes).

Q: Can I still register my son or daughter if I missed the June 13th deadline?
A: After the June 13th deadline you may register your child, but a $50 non-refundable latenfee is required and the child may be wait-listed.

Q: How does the “Wait-list” work?
A: The earlier the child is registered after the June deadline, the sooner you will be notified if your child has cleared the wait-list. At the Flag level the wait-list is addressed on a first-come, first serve basis.

Q: Will a coach contact my child prior to the opening of the season?
A: Yes, the coaches will be contacting their teams ahead of the first practice to welcome them to the team and provide information on practice, etc.

Q: I am interested in being a coach. Who do I contact and how to I apply?
A: On your child’s registration form there is a box to fill-in for “Job code.” Please fill-in either “1” for Head Coach or “2” for Assistant coach, respectively.

Q: What is the practice schedule?
A: Each head coach will determine the team’s practice schedule and location.  Practices will begin no earlier than the week of August 8th.  At the flag level team practices are typically 2-3 times per week in August and 1-2 times per week during the September-October timeframe.

Q: What is the length of the season, and how many games will be played?

  • Silver Division Flag: season is comprised of a total of nine (9) games. The first three weeks in August are dedicated to preparing players to play their first game which will be played on Saturday, August 27th. Each team will play one game each Saturday and the final games will be held on Friday evening October 28th (season ending “bowl games” under the lights at Sunset Meadows).
  • Blue Division Flag: is new this year and we are still working out the details, but anticipate a similar number of games and timeline.
